1st International Conference on Educational Theory and Research took place in İzmir from 11-13 February. Compared to a typical ELT conference, it was different in terms of the themes it addressed. The presentations covered a wide range of interdisciplinary topics including anguage learning, design, engineering, science, mathematics and more. The focus of the all themes aimed to offer new developments, technologies and approaches at both the national and international level. The conference had 5 plenary speakers and nearly 50 concurrent sessions.
The 3rd Technology, Law and Privacy Conference was organised by Yücel Saygın from Sabanci University and Elif Küzeci from Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Law, along with Nilgün Başalp from Istanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Law, and Aytaç Göğüş from Okan University. It was held on June 10th at Sabancı University Karakoy Communication Center Istanbul, with the theme of “Privacy and Education in a Social Environment”. TUBITAK and DERIS Attorneys at Law Partnership sponsored the event.
Despite being the thirteenth FOCI event held on Friday the thirteenth, this Forum on Curricular Issues (FOCI) focusing on the theme of Analyzing the Needs and Needing the Analysis went off without a hitch (well, maybe there were a few mishaps along the way but these were smoothed over the very welcoming hosts, Pamukkale University School of Foreign Languages). Curriculum developers from 23 different universities attended the two-day event.
On 26th & 27th May 2016, Ege University hosted a conference which was the third in a series of events related to the publication last November of a British Council baseline study on The State of English in Higher Education in Turkey.
The Forum on Assessment Issues VI (FOAI) took place on 15th April at Bahçeşehir University, Istanbul. The theme of the forum was ‘Placement and Proficiency exams’ and representatives from a variety of state, foundation and private universities participated in the event.
Tesol Arabia Conference is considered as the biggest conference and exhibition of its type in the region and this year’s theme was ‘Language, Culture, Communication and Transformations in intercultural contexts’. It was a 3-day conference and there were presenters from over 50 countries.
The ‘Advance. Inspire. Teach’ conference took place on 5th March in Portoroz, Slovenia. With a theme encompassing the need for innovative thinking in language teaching, the event consisted of five plenary talks, followed by workshops from each of the speakers.
We arrived at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Şişli on a grey, dull morning in Istanbul. However, the mood outside juxtaposed with the one at the 3rd Educational Technology Summit. This year’s motto was ‘Get Inspired, Be Inspiring’ and it seemed to have a palpable effect on the swarm of people from the worlds of education, media and business.
Sabancı University School of Languages Professional Development Seminar & Workshop II Language Learner Development & Project Based Learning (PBL)
The 7th T-PLUS Event was held at Bilkent university as a joint organization by T-PLUS, TESOL Arabia and Bilkent University on November 20th and 21st, 2014. The theme was ‘Personal and Institutional Development’ and Meral Güçeri and Christine Coombe gave two inspiring plenaries that were titled ‘Shades of Blue’ and ‘Professionalizing Your English Language Teaching’.
