Academic Writing Symposium was held at Justus Liebig University, Giessen on April 6-7, 2017.

The 14th FOCI event took place on December 15th and 16th, 2016 and was hosted by Doğuş University in Istanbul. Educational technology, a topic of high interest to many of us involved in language teaching and learning, was at the centre of this event. As stated on the FOCI website, the main purpose of these two days was ‘to clarify the practical ways of systematically integrating technological tools into the delivery of the curriculum in such a way that will allow technology to be exploited in a pedagogically effective way in our classes’.

“You should do it,” they said. “It’ll be fun,” they said. Well… it was that and more. Up until last year, we used to mostly ignore those e-mails regarding the Erasmus staff exchange program, thinking it was probably only just aimed for department professors.

On 16th, 17th and 18th of June, Bilkent University hosted their 14th International Conference on Classroom Assessment, where the plenary speakers were Prof. Giray Berberoğlu, Prof. Anthony Green, Steve Ferrera, Dr. Neus Figueras, Prof. Barry O’sullivan, and Prof. Emeritus Sauli Takala.

In the School of Languages (SL), support tutorials for students at a certain level have been in practice for quite a long time. They were done in different formats by different teachers in the past. Based on the feedback from previous semesters, last year, at Route 3, we tried to find out a way to organise support tutorials in order to maximise the benefits. We mainly brainstormed ideas both for administration and content of these tutorials. In spring 2015, the support tutorials received positive feedback from both students and teachers. Based on this feedback, we were asked to give support tutorials for Route 2 (Pre-Intermediate) (Sonat) and Route 3(Intermediate) (Neslihan) in Spring 2016. Here, we will explain the administration and the content of the tutorials together with feedback from students and our reflections on the tutorials.
