The World Language Courses for Freshman Students
WORLD LANGUAGES COURSES FOR FRESHMAN STUDENTS
Dear 2024-2025 New Entry Students,
Freshman students who would like to take a World Language course have to do it after they have registered for their mandatory courses. To register officially they need to wait until the add and drop period on the 13rd and the 14th of February 2025.
However, before you register officially, Freshman students who are sure they will take a language course need to sign in a petition and specify the language course they want to study to ensure that the class remains open in the add-drop period.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE PETITION PROCESS
- Check the timetable of the language you want to study does not conflict with your mandatory Freshman courses through the Student Information System. When you find a course that suits your schedule, mark the language and section you want to attend in the petition form.
- Sign the petition, take a photo and email the photo to the teacher of the language you want to study. Check the language teacher’s contact details below.
The World Languages Courses (WLCs), offered by School of Languages in this Fall term are listed below:
German and Turkish as a 2nd language
- These courses are free elective subjects. Each course corresponds to 3 Sabanci credits and 4 ECTS credits. If you take more than two beginners courses (110 and 120), the third one will not be counted as a credit course.
- Even if you have given a petition for a course you need to register to the class during the add-drop period (3rd-4th October) through the online system.
- If any course has more applications than the capacity available students who register or give in petitions first will get the available places.
- German is offered 5 hours a week (3+2); the registration for the course is mandatory; the courses are free.
- Turkish as a foreign language is 3 hours a week (2 + 1)
GER 110 course with less than 10 students registered will be closed on the 7th of February and will not be opened for Add-Drop unless there are at least 10 students petitions.
For GER 120 and higher levels only a minimum of 5 students need to be registered for courses to open.
