SL Proj 001 – A Success Story
In Fall 2018 Cem Kaya, Arslan Şahin, Ceren Süer and Sevinç Yağmur Bekler, under the guidance of their teacher Sonat Demirdirek , worked to research and find an answer the question “How can we improve transportation from Sabancı University to other areas of Istanbul?” in their Proj. 001 class. Their project produced a fantastic real-life result which may have a positive impact on people travelling to and from Sabancı University. How can we improve transportation from Sabancı University to other areas of Istanbul?

In our first Proj class , we started to think about a relevant topic which affected students in a negative way . We made observations and according to our observations , transportation in our university was a significant problem for both students and University members. We realized that we can’t solve all transportation problems at once so we had to choose a sub problem. In order to specify it we made a survey and figured out that a lot of people had difficulties mostly with Bostancı shuttles. There was just one shuttle from campus to Bostancı. After we decided to increase the Bostancı shuttle frequency, we made interviews with Sabancı University transportation unit. This unit in our school demanded us to find people who had been struggling with Bostancı Shuttles and make those people e-mail to them. In order to do this, we decided that the best way to reach more people was to make announcements in Mysu. At first’ our announcements were not attractive enough so we modified them according to our teacher’s advice. We made daily announcements in campusnet and received several e-mails however we did not inform University ‘s transportation unit about the announcements we made. They invited us to their office and we were a little bit nervous that if there was a problem. After the meeting with transportation unit, the problem about announcements was resolved. When we reached enough emails, transportation unit told us that they will consider these emails at the semester. They decided to add 3 weeks testing shuttles and if people use it, the shuttles will be permanent. When we learned this, we were so excited and surprised. All that work was not in vain. We were really happy because we solved a problem and changed something. We have more confidence toward problems right now.
