Book Review: Mapping Autonomy in Language Education

Ekrem Şimşek's book review (Mapping Autonomy in Language Education: A Framework for Learner and Teacher Development) appeared in the latest issue of IATEFL Newsletter "Independence." You can find below an abstract of his review: 

The main purpose of Mapping Autonomy in Language Education is to propose a framework for the development of learner and teacher autonomy in language education. The title stresses two metaphors:  mapping and framework. While “mapping” emphasises the need to bring forward the role of contexts, learners and teachers in shaping the ends and means of pedagogy for autonomy, “framework” refers to the structuring elements that consist of contexts, learners and teachers.  By providing a comprehensive and flexible framework for the development of pedagogy for autonomy in school settings, the authors hope to promote critical reflection and purposeful, context-sensitive action
