Erasmus Teaching Mobility Program at Carl von Ossietzky University
by Ekrem Şimşek
Between 23–27 June 2025, I had the pleasure of participating in the Erasmus Teaching Mobility Program at Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg. The city, with a population of around 162,000, is known as the cultural and scientific heart of northwest Germany.
During my visit, I delivered three lectures attended by undergraduate and master’s students, as well as teaching staff. The topics included Post‑Truth & Beyond, The Altruism Effect – from Philosophy to Well‑being and Soft Power, and Strong Drama – The Global Allure of Turkish TV. It was particularly uplifting to connect with two Turkish undergraduates and a Turkish master’s student, whose participation added a special energy to the sessions.
The warm welcome from both university staff and students made the experience memorable. The Carl von Ossietzky University, a public institution of about 15,000 students, is known for its openness to innovative teaching and its strong support for international partnerships. Exploring Oldenburg- cycling through green parks and visiting cafés in the historic center, reminded me why this city is cherished by residents and international visitors alike.
Overall, the teaching mobility was a rewarding and enriching experience both professionally and personally—leaving me inspired by Oldenburg’s collegial spirit, inclusive academic environment, and cultural charm.
